At the end of the course, students are expected to understand:
• How human rights have developed through history.
• The principle of equality in international human rights law.
• The meaning and contents of positive and negative obligations.
• The concept of limits and of derogation (in time of emergency) to human rights obligations.
This laboratory will focus on the so-called generations of rights, then it will develop the concept of equality and non-discrimination. Subsequently, the course will engage with positive and negative human rights obligations, questioning the limits and possible derogations to human rights.
Lectures. Seminars and workshops. Course taught in English.
